Support

As President of the SFA, we the AFA members of the SFA endorse Dick Fanguy for Vice President of the AFA.

I have known Dick since the early 90's. He has always extended a helping hand to me and others in our chapter, and now as I am serving a second term as SFA President, Dick has been and is now a big part of our team. Everything that I have asked him to do he has stepped up to the plate.

I would like to encourage the AFA membership to get in touch with each candidate's chapter to see what kind of team player or contribution they have been in their chapter. The bottom line is that we are farriers, and we need farriers with AFA experience that are in position with our best interest in mind.

David Hodges, CJF
SFA President

I have known Richard “Dick” Fanguy for about 30 years. He has always been interested in horses. He has been a horseshoer for 35 or so years.

I met Dicky when I worked with Lawrence P. Leonardi. I worked with Lawrence from 1959 in his Black Smith Shop in the French Quarter in New Orleans , La. until his death in 1985. I can remember Dicky calling & talking to Lawrence , getting advice & instructions on how to do different procedures on horses.

Dicky Fanguy, Sandy Mc Beth and Jules Domingue were some of the people responsible for sparking my interest in joining the AFA and SFA. Dicky was also one of the persons responsible for my interest in the Certification test.

In 1990 Dicky and SFA members were instrumental in several horseshoers getting together to study and practice for the testing. Dickys knowledge was very helpful in these gatherings. He influenced the interest of at least 5 other Horseshoers to be tested, that I know of.

In 2004 I was on vacation in Wyoming and had a massive heart attack and by pass surgery. I was unable to shoe horses for 6 to 8 weeks. Dicky got the word out and with the help of SFA members and some non members, took care of my customers horses for these weeks. All proceeds were mailed to me and if not for these great people, who I still thank God for. We would not have made it through. It was not just the money but the great support for myself and my wife.

These are just a few of the things I can say about Dicky and the list could go on. I feel he would be an asset to the association if elected.

J.E.Argus, Jr., CJF
Vice President SFA

I have not had the pleasure of Dick Fanguy's acquaintance as long as Mr. Argus, but I did have the opportunity to work side by side with Dick at Lamar-Dixon after Katrina and Rita.

After back surgery and a subsequent infection, Dick should have been home or in the hospital recuperating. But he wasn't, he was on site every morning at 6am and didn't leave until the last horse of the day was tended to. Dick doesn't wait around for accolades; he does what needs to be done and moves on. In Dick's sixty plus years he has been an educator, a police officer and a career farrier. Dick Fanguy has the experience, leadership skills and compassion to keep the AFA moving forward.

Sincerely,
RT Goodrich, CJF

I've known Dick Fanguy for more than 20 years, and I'm proud to call him my friend.

He's been a mentor and a brother, standing beside me, in public and in private, when he knew I was right. And he's stood in my face when he knew I was wrong, again, both publicly and privately.

In my service to the AFA, I have looked to Dick Fanguy as a model for behavior. He's respectful of our past, but willing and eager to embrace new ideas and growth.

He's a fine farrier, a dedicated and long-term member of the AFA, a true gentleman, and a straight shooter (in a duck blind, in the deer woods, or in a conversation). I can think of no person who is better prepared to be a leader of the AFA and to be our representative and spokesperson to the larger equine community.
